I was drawn to Learn French New York because of the variety of coursework options, and the quality of the teaching is what kept me there for an additional class. This coming autumn I will begin my first year in a Ph.D. program, and by the end of my second year I will have to proove reading proficiency in a foreign language. So when I began applying to schools six months ago, I hired a private tutor to get a headstart on French. My progression was slow, however, because we only met once a week, I didn't have peers to practice with, and the lessons relied more on strict memorization than learning the rules behind what I was memorizing. I quickly realized I needed to find a program that had more stucture and formal instruction. This was exactly what I found at LFNY. Meeting twice a week in a group class gave me the repetition and interactive practice I needed. I progressed much faster than when I was taking private lessons. Moreover, Sandrine uses grammar very effectively when she teaches French. This has made it possible for me to recognize forms when I see or hear them, so that even if I don't know the specific words, I can immediately place them in a context I understand. Sandrine is like a little Ile de Paris right in the heart of Manhattan. I have been through many french teachers over the years, but I had never worked with somebody as comprehensive as her. Studying with Sandrine has been great. I've taken French before in a class room setting. This time I wanted to work with a teacher one-on-one, because I knew I would learn faster that way, but every thing I looked into seemed too expensive. I was really glad to find Sandrine. on or she'll cover everything from reading, comprehension, writing, grammar, pronunciation andconversation. She has a lot of materials from different sources that she can provide for her lessons
